8 Books We Recommend to All Our HS Students (And Parents!)

A podcast titled "The Joys of the Reading Life" from one of our favorite creators, Cal Newport, popped up, and it fascinated us.

He covered topics like why books increase cognitive skills and how reading can lead to a more fulfilling life, and it made us think: how much of our lives has been influenced by the books we've read?

Unsurprising to us, the answer to that question is a lot - Study habits we relied on throughout college, wisdom that has defined my purpose, and even the basis of our team's robust, all-inclusive 4-Year College Confidence Program are all pieces of knowledge we've accumulated from various books over the years.

And now, we're looking to share that knowledge with you.

Are you interested in reading more but don't know what books to read or where to start?

In this video, we break it down into three simple categories:

  • Books to help students stand out in high school

  • Books to help parents understand the college admissions process

  • Books for both students and parents that we personally have found impactful

Watch: Our Team's 8 Favorite Books All High Schoolers (And Their Parents!) Should Read

Time: 22:07

Best,
Jack Delehey

P.S. - Have a high-performing high schooler w/ a 3.7 GPA or higher? We'll help get them into at least one of their top 5 dream colleges...and if we don't get them into at least one of their top 5 dream colleges, you don't pay us a penny.  Seriously!  You can learn more about our world renowned all-inclusive, start-to-finish college coaching here and to see if your family qualifies for an introductory call.

P.P.S - Our most common question is "When should we start?!"  The answer is, if you truly care about giving your high schooler the best chance of college planning success, you should start NOW. 9th grade is not too early to start! 10th grade is certainly not too early to start! And 11th grade is far, far too late! (supporting data here to show just how much of an advantage you give your child by starting the process early).
